Music Streaming App Wireframe

A music streaming app wireframe is a low-fidelity layout of the screens listeners use to find music, play it and keep a library. This free template rebuilds 15 screens from the Spotify iOS app: sign-up, home with a mini player, search and results, an artist page, a playlist, now playing, the queue, track options, a podcast episode, Your Library, a Premium offer and settings. Edit it online in Whimsical for music streaming app design, podcasts included.

Spotify's listening screens as editable wireframes, from home and search to now playing and the queue.

What's included

  • Sign-up and log in. Welcome, sign-up options and a log in screen that takes an email or username.
  • Home and search. Home with Music and Podcasts filters and a mini player above the tab bar, plus genre browsing and results filtered by songs, artists, albums and playlists.
  • Artist and playlist pages. An artist page with monthly listeners, Events and Merch tabs and Popular tracks, and a playlist with Add, Mix, Edit and Sort.
  • Now playing and queue. A full player with a progress bar, an Added to playlist toast and Lyrics, and a queue with drag handles plus Shuffle, Repeat and Timer.
  • Track options and podcasts. A track sheet with Add to Queue, Start a Jam and Exclude from your taste profile, and a live podcast episode with comments.
  • Library, plans and settings. Your Library with filters and Liked Songs, a Premium offer, and settings with a log out confirmation.

Why wireframe a music streaming app?

  • Design the player for a glance. The now playing wireframe stacks artwork, title, a progress bar with elapsed and remaining time, then five playback controls in one row.
  • Make the queue manageable. Every queued track has a drag handle, and Shuffle, Repeat and a sleep Timer sit at the bottom, where a thumb reaches them.
  • Keep playback in reach. A mini player sits above the tab bar on home, so the current song and a play button stay on screen while people browse.
  • Plan for more than music. A podcast episode page with time left and comments shows how the same app handles spoken audio.
  • Place the upgrade. Under Why upgrade?, the Premium offer names what a free listener goes without: ad-free listening and offline downloads.

How to use this template

  1. Duplicate the template. Copy the 15 Spotify screens into your Whimsical workspace.
  2. Decide your content types. Keep music, podcasts or audiobooks as needed, and remove the screens you won't use.
  3. Rework home. Choose what home recommends, like recent plays, stations, new releases or editorial picks.
  4. Edit the player. Add or remove controls such as shuffle, repeat, lyrics, devices or the sleep timer.
  5. Trim track options. Cut the 12-item track sheet down to what your catalog supports.
  6. Plan offline and free tiers. Note which features need a paid plan or a download before visual design starts.

Full-screen player vs mini player

A full-screen player is the now playing view, with large artwork, a progress bar and every playback control. A mini player is a slim bar pinned above the tab bar that shows the current track and a play button while people browse. Music apps need both: the mini player for control anywhere, the full player for detail. In this template, the mini player sits on home.

Frequently asked questions

  • Build a music streaming app by designing playback first and the catalog around it. Wireframe the now playing screen, the queue and the mini player, then home, search, artist, playlist and library pages. Licensing, streaming infrastructure and offline downloads come later and shape what a free tier can offer. Drafting the screens in Whimsical's wireframe tool lets the team agree on flows before building.

  • No single music app has the best UI for everyone, but Spotify is a useful benchmark because it fits music, podcasts and a free tier behind a short tab bar led by Home, Search and Your Library. Its tab bar stays visible as people move between sections, as Apple's tab bar guidelines recommend. The right model for your app depends on whether listeners mostly search, browse or replay saved music.

  • Spotify's iOS app. The Spotify app design handles music, podcasts and a free tier in one player, so its structure covers more cases than most audio apps. The 15 wireframes were built from screenshots on Mobbin, each next to its source with a link to the screen. Album art and branding are gray placeholders, and Whimsical isn't affiliated with Spotify.

  • It was made with App Wireframe, an open-source agent skill. Name an app, Spotify in this case, and it pulls the key screens from Mobbin, then rebuilds each as an editable Whimsical wireframe next to its screenshot. Point it at another music or podcast app, or at your own screenshots, and you get the same kind of board. Under the hood it's an AI agent using the Whimsical MCP server, with the Mobbin MCP server added for apps you name.

  • A now playing screen is the full-screen view of the track that's playing, with artwork, title, artist, a progress bar and controls for play, skip, shuffle and repeat. It usually links to the queue, lyrics and output devices. Apple's guidance on playing audio adds that people expect playback to pause the moment headphones disconnect. This template includes Spotify's now playing screen with its Lyrics panel.
