Banking App Design

A banking app design template lays out the screens a mobile bank needs before anyone styles them: log in, a home dashboard with balances at a glance, transactions, payments, cards and security. This free one wireframes 15 screens from the Monzo iOS app, from a home screen with personal and joint balances to spending targets, a five-step payment flow, savings pots and card freeze. Edit it online in Whimsical to plan a bank, neobank or fintech app.

Monzo's everyday banking screens as editable wireframes, from log in to payment sent.

What's included

  • Log in and home dashboard. Email log in, a home screen with personal, joint and other bank balances above the activity feed, and an empty search state.
  • Transaction detail. Merchant and address, a foreign currency exchange rate, a category you can change, bill splitting and a money request with a payment reminder.
  • Spending trends with targets. A category breakdown against monthly targets, with lines like 20% left of an £800 target, 11 days to go and £14 a day.
  • Five-screen payment flow. A payments hub, payee search with favorites, an amount keypad that previews the new balance, a confirm sheet for a repeating payment, and a sent screen with undo.
  • Savings and scheduled payments. A savings pot with its interest rate and add or withdraw buttons, a list of subscriptions and direct debits, and a plan upgrade screen.
  • Card and security. Card details behind a reveal, freeze card and reveal PIN, plus privacy and security settings with Face ID, undo payments and a call status check.

Why plan banking app design in wireframes?

  • Put balances first. Many visits are a quick balance check, so the home wireframe stacks personal, joint and other bank balances above recent activity, and the at-a-glance answer needs no tap.
  • Show the result before money moves. The amount screen says what the new balance will be, and a confirm sheet repeats payee, date and schedule before Pay and schedule.
  • Give people a way back. The sent screen asks Made a mistake? with an undo link, and the security settings let people switch undo payments on.
  • Turn transactions into targets. Trends compares each category with a target and flags the ones that ran over, like entertainment at £242 over.
  • Treat scams as a design problem. Face ID, extra checks on large transfers and a call status line that says the bank isn't calling all sit on one settings screen.

How to use this template

  1. Duplicate the template. Copy the 15 Monzo screens into your Whimsical workspace.
  2. Decide what the home screen answers. Pick the one or two numbers your customers check most, like available balance or credit owed.
  3. Fit the payment flow to your market. Add payee name checks, transfer limits or cut-off times to the confirm sheet where your rules require them.
  4. Swap in your products. Replace savings pots and plans with your own accounts, cards, loans or investments.
  5. Draw the failure screens. Add a failed payment, insufficient funds and a locked card before handoff.

Banking app vs budgeting app

A banking app holds the money, so it handles balances, payments, cards and security for one bank's accounts. A budgeting app plans the money, often pulling transactions from several banks and assigning income to categories. The line is blurring: Monzo's trends screen sets targets per category and the home screen shows a balance from another bank.

Frequently asked questions

  • Monzo, the UK digital bank. Its app is a good study in trust: transactions carry merchant names and categories, payments end with an undo option, and a call status check tells people whether the bank is really on the phone. The 15 wireframes were drawn from screenshots on Mobbin, each kept next to its source with a link to the screen. Whimsical isn't affiliated with Monzo.

  • Yes, with App Wireframe, the open-source agent skill that built this template. Name another banking app and it pulls the key screens from Mobbin, then rebuilds each one as an editable Whimsical wireframe beside its screenshot. Working on your own bank's app? Give it your own screenshots instead. It runs in an AI agent connected to the Whimsical MCP server, plus the Mobbin MCP server for named apps.

  • Design a banking app around the tasks people repeat: checking a balance, understanding a transaction and paying someone. Wireframe those first, show the result of a payment before it's sent, and plan the failure cases, like a declined card or a locked account. Then add savings, cards and insights. Sketching the structure as Whimsical wireframes keeps the first review on flow and wording, not colors.

  • Good banking app UI design keeps the dashboard to a few numbers, labels transactions with real merchant names and makes every payment checkable before it's final. W3C accessibility guidance on financial transactions asks that submissions be reversible, checked or confirmed. Monzo's flow covers two of those: a confirm sheet before Pay and schedule, and an undo link on the sent screen.

  • Banking apps protect people from scams by adding friction in the right places: biometric log in, extra checks on large transfers and a clear signal about who's really calling. Monzo's call status shows in the app whether a Monzo employee is on the phone, and tells people to hang up if not. This template's security screen puts that check next to Face ID.
