Marketplace app design covers two journeys in one product: buyers searching, asking questions and paying, and sellers listing items and answering them. This free template wireframes 15 screens from Vinted's iOS app for secondhand fashion: search with brand, size and condition filters, item detail with Buyer Protection, a seller's closet, an offer sheet, chat, checkout, orders and the sell flow. Edit it online in Whimsical to plan a peer-to-peer or resale marketplace.
A peer-to-peer marketplace lets individuals buy from and sell to each other, so every listing is unique and trust comes from reviews, messaging and buyer protection. An ecommerce app sells a catalog the business controls, with fixed prices and stock. Marketplaces need a sell flow and a negotiation loop; ecommerce apps need inventory and delivery promises.
A good marketplace app design makes listing fast for sellers and buying safe for buyers. That means a short listing form, filters that narrow results quickly, item pages with condition and seller reviews, in-app messaging and a checkout with buyer protection. Show fees early, too: Nielsen Norman Group's research on trustworthy design found people trust sites that are upfront about shipping and extra charges.
Vinted's iOS app, built for buying and selling secondhand clothes. It's a strong example of a two-sided app because listing an item is nearly as quick as buying one, and the 15 screens show both sides. Every wireframe was traced from a screenshot on Mobbin and links back to that screen. Photos and usernames are gray boxes, and Whimsical and Vinted aren't affiliated.
You can, using App Wireframe, the open-source agent skill that made this template from Vinted's screens. Name another marketplace app and it pulls the key screens from Mobbin, then rebuilds each as an editable Whimsical wireframe beside its screenshot, buyer and seller sides included. It also works on your own screenshots or designs. You'll need an AI agent with the Whimsical MCP server connected, and the Mobbin MCP server if you want it to fetch an app's screens.
Buyer protection is a marketplace guarantee that covers the buyer if an item doesn't arrive or isn't as described, usually paid for with a small fee at checkout. Vinted ties it to checkout: on its safety page, a purchase is protected when you use the Buy now button. That's why this template shows the fee on the item page, offer sheet and checkout.
Start by designing the listing form and the item page together, since one feeds the other. Then wireframe search and filters for buyers, messaging for questions, and a checkout that explains protection and shipping. Test the flow from both sides. You can do all of this in Whimsical's wireframe editor, starting from this marketplace template.
