Dating App UI

Dating app UI is the set of screens people use to build a profile, browse potential matches, send a like and start a conversation. This free template wireframes 15 screens from the Hinge iOS app: date of birth and dating intention, the discover feed, profile vitals, a like with a comment, Likes You, matches, chat, the prompt picker, preferences, membership plans and safety settings. Edit it online in Whimsical to plan a dating or social discovery app.

Hinge's dating flow as editable wireframes, from date of birth to chat, prompts and safety settings.

What's included

  • Intent-first onboarding. Date of birth, then a dating intention screen with options from Life partner to Short-term relationship.
  • Discover and profile vitals. A scrolling profile with Age, Height and Dating intention filters, a Verified badge, a like on every photo and prompt, and vitals like job and languages.
  • Likes and matches. A send-a-like sheet with Add a comment, a Likes You list that says which photo was liked, and matches split into Your turn and Their turn.
  • Chat. A conversation with Chat and Profile tabs, a Voice Notes prompt and a hint to double tap to like a message.
  • Profile building. A profile hub with Boost and Roses, and an edit screen with reorderable photos, Top Photo and three written prompts from a prompt picker.
  • Preferences, plans and safety. Preferences with dealbreakers, Standard and Premium plans from one week to three months, and settings with Selfie Verification, Block List, Hidden Words and Pause.

Why wireframe a dating app's UI?

  • Design profiles people can reply to. Prompts like Typical Sunday and a vitals block give someone a specific thing to answer, beyond photos.
  • Make interest specific. Every photo and prompt on the discover screen has its own like button, and the send-a-like sheet adds an optional comment.
  • Show whose turn it is. Matches split into Your turn and Their turn, a small nudge to answer before a conversation goes quiet.
  • Map the paid tier. Likes You, Boost, Roses, subscriber-only preferences and three plan lengths show how many places a dating app sells upgrades.
  • Keep safety tools findable. Selfie Verification, Block List and Hidden Words sit together in settings, and Pause hides a profile from new people while current matches can still chat.

How to use this template

  1. Duplicate the template. Copy the 15 Hinge screens into your Whimsical workspace.
  2. Define your profile. Pick which photos, prompts and vitals a profile shows, and edit the profile and prompt picker screens to match.
  3. Choose your browse model. Keep a scrolling profile with specific likes, or switch to swipes, a daily batch or events.
  4. Add the safety flows. Sketch report, unmatch and block from chat and profiles, plus the verification steps behind the Verified badge.
  5. Decide what's premium. Mark which features need a membership, then cut the Boost, Roses or subscriber preferences you won't sell.

Swipe-based vs profile-first dating apps

A swipe-based dating app shows one card at a time and asks for a quick yes or no, which favors photos and speed. A profile-first app like Hinge shows a full scrolling profile, with a like button on each photo and prompt and an X to skip. Profile-first designs need richer editors for photos, prompts and vitals; swipe designs need tight card layouts.

Frequently asked questions

  • The best dating app UI ideas give people a reason to write something specific. Hinge lets someone like a single photo or prompt and attach a comment, splits matches into Your turn and Their turn, suggests voice notes in chat, and uses Top Photo to test which profile picture gets the most interest. Each of those patterns has a screen in this template.

  • Design a dating app UI around three parts: the profile, the browse loop and the first message. Decide what a profile shows, how people express interest and what happens after a match, then add safety tools to each of those screens. Wireframing the flow in Whimsical before choosing a dating app UI kit keeps early reviews on structure, not colors.

  • A dating app should let people verify their photos, block and report others, filter unwanted messages and hide their profile without deleting it. Hinge's settings hold Selfie Verification, a Block List for people you know, Pause, and Hidden Words, which moves likes with offensive comments out of the main inbox. Design these screens early, since they touch profiles, likes and chat.

  • Hinge's iOS app. Its prompts and specific likes are a different take from swipe-based dating, which makes it a useful contrast when designing your own. The 15 wireframes were traced from screenshots on Mobbin, each placed beside its source with a link to the screen. Profile photos, names and branding are removed, and Whimsical isn't affiliated with Hinge or Match Group.

  • You can, with App Wireframe, the open-source agent skill behind this template. Ask for another dating app on Mobbin, swipe-based or prompt-based, and it pulls the key screens and rebuilds them as editable Whimsical wireframes, each beside its screenshot. It also takes your own screenshots, for example of an app you're designing. Under the hood it's an AI agent using the Whimsical MCP server, with the Mobbin MCP server added for apps you name.
