Fitness App UI

A fitness app UI template covers the screens people use to plan a workout, follow it at the gym and track progress. This free one wireframes 15 screens from the Fitbod iOS app, a strength training planner: onboarding by experience and equipment, a generated workout, exercise demos and records, set logging with rest timers, a workout summary, a muscle recovery map and the workout log. Edit it online in Whimsical to plan a fitness or workout app.

Fitbod's strength training screens as editable wireframes, from equipment setup to muscle recovery.

What's included

  • Personalized onboarding. An experience level choice from beginner to advanced and an equipment checklist with dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells and benches, two steps of an eight-step setup.
  • Generated workout. Your gym, the target muscles, a 6-minute warm-up, a superset and exercises listed as sets, reps and weight, with a Start Workout button.
  • Exercise library and detail. Search with filters by muscle and equipment, a demo with instructions, and records for best weight, volume, reps and projected one-rep max.
  • Set logging. Pounds and reps for each set, a 30-second rest between sets, Log Set and Add Set, then a finish screen with duration, volume and calories.
  • Summary and paywall. A workout summary with total weight lifted and new records, then a paywall after the first workout that counts the free workouts left.
  • Recovery, history and settings. A recovery body map, a muscle list with percent recovered, a workout log calendar, and settings with connected apps and data export.

Why wireframe a fitness app's UI?

  • Design for between sets. The log sets wireframe holds weight, reps and a 30-second rest and little else, which is about all anyone reads mid-workout with sweaty hands.
  • Personalize from the first screen. Experience and equipment questions let the first generated workout fit the person and the gym they're in.
  • Answer how and how much. Demo and records screens show how to do a movement and what was lifted last time.
  • Give rest days a screen. The recovery map shows which muscle groups are fresh, so the app has a use on days off.
  • Ask for payment after the first workout. The paywall appears after the first logged session, once the value is clear, and says how many free workouts are left.

How to use this template

  1. Duplicate the template. Copy the 15 Fitbod screens into your Whimsical workspace.
  2. Pick your training type. Rework the workout screen for strength, running, yoga or classes, and keep the logging pattern.
  3. Cut onboarding to what changes the plan. Ask only for things that change the first workout, like goals, experience, equipment or injuries.
  4. Check logging one-handed. Make every control on the log sets screen big enough for a thumb, and test it standing up.
  5. Decide on progress views. Keep the recovery map, or swap in charts for personal records, streaks or body measurements.

Workout planner app vs workout tracker app

A workout planner app decides what to do, generating sessions from goals, equipment and recovery, as Fitbod does. A workout tracker app records what was done and leaves the plan to the user or a coach. Planners need onboarding and generated workouts; trackers need fast logging and flexible exercise lists. Many apps now combine both.

Frequently asked questions

  • Good fitness app UI stays readable at arm's length and keeps logging to one or two taps. Controls need to be large: Apple's accessibility guidelines give 44x44 points as the default control size on iPhone, and a sweaty gym session argues for more. In this template, Fitbod's set logging, workout summary and recovery map show those choices as 15 editable wireframes.

  • Fitbod's iOS app. It generates each workout from your experience, equipment and muscle recovery, so its screens show a planner rather than a simple log. The 15 wireframes were drawn from screenshots on Mobbin and placed beside them, each with a link to the screen. Exercise images are gray placeholders, and the template is independent of Fitbod.

  • With App Wireframe, the open-source agent skill that made this template, you can. Name a workout or running app and it pulls the key screens from Mobbin, then rebuilds each one as an editable Whimsical wireframe next to its screenshot. It also works from your own screenshots, if you're redesigning your own fitness app. You'll need an AI agent with the Whimsical MCP server connected, and the Mobbin MCP server if you want it to fetch an app's screens.

  • Design a workout app for the gym floor: large tap targets, minimal text and logging that works between sets. Start with onboarding that shapes the first workout, then the workout, logging and summary screens, and test them while actually training. Rough the screens out in a wireframe editor like Whimsical before anyone designs the visuals.

  • A fitness app should connect to Apple Health when it records workouts people want to see in one place, and it should ask only when the data is needed. Apple's HealthKit guidelines say to request access when it relates to the current task, not right after launch. Fitbod's finish screen offers Sync to health app at the end of a workout, which is that moment.
