Moving from Lucidchart to Whimsical

You can bring your Lucidchart diagrams into Whimsical without redrawing them. Copy anything in Lucidchart, paste it into a Whimsical board, and it arrives as fully editable Whimsical objects.

How to copy from Lucidchart to WhimsicalCopied!Link to this section

  1. Open your Lucidchart document and select what you want to bring over.
  2. Copy it with Cmd + C (Mac) or Ctrl + C (PC).
  3. Open a Whimsical board and paste with Cmd + V (Mac) or Ctrl + V (PC).

Everything arrives as a single step, so one undo removes the whole paste, including images that finish loading afterwards.

LimitationsCopied!Link to this section

  • We have a limit of up to 100 images load per paste.
  • Some shapes become rectangles. Shapes without a Whimsical match keep their text but become rectangles. This includes the document, manual input, delay, display and off-page link shapes, block arrows and chevrons.
  • Curved connectors come across as straight connectors that follow the same path. If a line has several labels, they're combined into one.
  • Merged table cells aren't merged. Their text sits in the first cell.
  • Colors are matched, not copied exactly. Gradients use their first color. You can update your color theme to match your brand.
  • Fonts, text color, highlights and line thickness aren't carried over. Text is shown in our Dinsical font.
  • Shapes snap to the nearest right angle. Text, sticky notes and containers paste upright.
  • Hotspots and hidden objects are skipped.
  • Very large tables paste as a single rectangle with their text, so it’s best to split them before pasting.

Tips for a smooth migrationCopied!Link to this section

  • Copy one page or area at a time so it's easy to check the result.
  • Paste into a fresh Whimsical board first while you get a feel for it.
  • If you see Couldn't paste selection, try copying fewer objects at a time.
