How to copy from Miro to WhimsicalCopied!Link to this section

There's no export file, import step, or plugin. It's a simple copy and paste between the two apps.

1. Open your Miro board and select what you want to bring over. You can copy a single object, a whole frame, a mixed selection, or the entire board.
2. Copy it with Cmd + C (Mac) or Ctrl + C (PC).
3. Open a Whimsical board and paste with Cmd + V (Mac) or Ctrl + V (PC).

The paste lands in the middle of your screen, or inside a section if you have one selected. It all arrives as a single step, so one undo removes the whole paste.

Each Miro object is rebuilt as its closest Whimsical equivalent. It keeps its position, size, rotation, and nesting.

• Colors, matched to the closest color in your board's palette

Everything is editable once it's in Whimsical. You can change the text, recolor objects, move them around and connect them to something new.

A few things behave differently. None of them will break your board, but they're worth knowing before you paste a large selection.

• Images don't come across. An image arrives as an empty rectangle in the right position and at the right size, so your layout stays intact. You can drop the real images in afterwards.
• Some objects become plain rectangles. Anything without a direct Whimsical equivalent, like embeds, videos, cards or app widgets, is kept as a rectangle at the correct position and size, with its title as the label when it has one.
• Wireframes come across as rectangles. Miro mind maps now arrive as editable Whimsical mind maps. Miro wireframe elements arrive as rectangles.
• Colors are matched, not copied exactly. Each Miro color goes to the nearest color in your board's palette. Pale blues, light oranges and reds keep their hue. Light grays stay gray. Table cells keep their tint, and plain grid cells stay plain. A specific brand HEX code can change, but you can update your color theme to match your brand.
• Custom fonts aren't carried over. Text is shown in our Dinsical font.
• Underline is dropped in shapes, text, sticky notes and tables. Rounded corners on rectangles are also lost.
• Sticky note text is always aligned top left.
• Some connector styles change. Dashed and dotted lines, shape borders, and diamond, circle and crow's foot arrowheads now come across. Curved connectors come across as straight connectors that follow the same path.
• Connectors to objects that don't come across are dropped.
• Tags stay behind. Comments, votes, reactions and timers don't paste either.
• Very large tables are skipped. A single table with more than 2,000 cells won't paste. Split it up first.

• Work frame by frame. It's easier to check the result as you go.
• Paste into a fresh Whimsical board so your existing work isn't affected while you get a feel for it.
• If you see Couldn't paste selection, try copying fewer objects at a time. If the message says the objects are too far apart, copy the areas of your board separately.
